If you’ve ever looked around your house in a moment of stress and see that you cannot do it all is very frustrating. You have some errands that needs to accommodate; you have work that needs to accomplish and lastly you have to attend your own self. We believe that no man is an island. You cannot do it just by yourself.
If you have the means to pay for an extra set of hands to help reduce your stress, hiring a housekeeper may be the perfect solution to your problems.
A nanny is different from a house cleaner
The first thing you should know is that a nanny is not exactly the same thing as a house cleaner. While they sound very similar, it’s important to know the distinctions between the two so that you can hire the right person for the job you need filled. The major differences between a nanny and a home cleaner revolve around the frequency of visits and the services that they perform when they’re in your home.
What is a nanny? A nanny is a more consistent presence in your home. They would be there one to two times per week or more, depending on your needs. A nanny completes a list of daily or weekly duties while in your home, and you provide the cleaning products they need to do their job. A nanny is taking care of all your personal needs such cooking, washing laundries and taking care of your children.
What is a house cleaner? A house cleaner is someone you would hire less frequently and often for a bigger job, such as a top-to-bottom deep cleaning of your home, getting a home ready for sale or prepping a vacation home.
If you’re looking for someone who is a steady presence in your home and who would complete the following general list of duties, a nanny is generally the way to go.
General duties you can expect your house cleaner to perform
The complete list of what a housekeeper would be responsible for doing in your home really varies depending on your needs. Ask yourself if there are specific needs that do not fall on the list below and, if so, make sure to include those in your job listing. Here are the general duties of a housekeeper:
Cleaning in the living areas. This includes dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping the floors in all rooms.
Cleaning the bathrooms, including mirrors, toilets, showers and baths.
Cleaning the kitchen, including wiping down appliances, inside of microwave, counters, sinks and cabinet doors.
Removing garbage and recycling.
Restocking personal items such as toilet paper, tissues, etc.
General tidying of the rooms. This includes putting away toys, decluttering and light organizing.
Washing walls and baseboards. This includes washing walls in all areas of the home using the proper chemicals designated to the walls and baseboards.
Duties you should not expect a house cleaner to perform
Child care. If you need someone to take care of your children in addition to general housekeeping, you will want to hire a nanny, who also takes on light housekeeping duties.
Cleaning up human/ animal waste. Exposure to human/ animal waste can be dangerous, so you should call in a waste removal service for that sort of job.
Tidying up beds. We are of the opinion that the practice originated with bed cleanliness. We strongly affirm that the bed constitutes a crucial aspect of personal hygiene, harboring personal items that may be best left unattended. While we are prepared to undertake the task, it is important to note that an additional fee will be required for our services.
Washing dishes. It is inherent in human nature to extend favors willingly, but occasionally, these small favors can escalate into significant time-consuming commitments. It is essential to establish boundaries in such situations. While we are open to taking on the task, please be aware that an additional fee will be necessary.
Caring of your pets. Our primary purpose is to attend to your home, not your pets. While we have a genuine affection for animals, it is not within our responsibility to care for them while we carry out our duties. We kindly request that, if you’re absent, you either place your pets in the backyard or a separate room or take them for a walk. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
